Character Name: Son Goku
Character Canon: Dragonball Z

History: Wiki here!

AU History:

Goku was born to both Gi-ne and Bardock, two talented Enlightened. His parents did much work for Union, until their demise to wild pokémon on an expedition to the far reaches of the Wildwoods. Goku was still only a baby, now never knowing his parents, leaving him as an orphan in Union. There were rumors that Goku also had a brother, but both would have been too young to know if the other existed. This would have left his supposed brother an orphan too, but to this day Goku does not know if he has a brother at all. A man by the name of Son Gohan eventually adopted Goku, a kind old man who knew much about training in the martial arts and helping those who are Enlightened get a better grasp of their powers. While living with him, Goku grew to become exceptional in the martial arts and by a young age, was already exhibiting his powers.

Gohan, whom of which Goku referred to as his grandfather, would tell him stories about the Savior and all the work that his parents, and mankind had done to further Union and help mankind. Gohan taught Goku to always protect the innocent, the weak, and always try to be the best person he could be every single day. The young boy took those words to heart and worked hard, trying to better himself, and always keeping his heart pure with the best intentions for everyone in Union. He swore he would help everyone by doing whatever he could to make this land safer and better for everyone, human and pokémon alike.

This was recognized by the city, and Goku bypassed going to school to immediately start exploring and following in his mother and father's footsteps. Unfortunately Goku did not learn much of the world around him because of this lack of schooling, but he helped to explore some of the known areas of the world and befriend pokémon along the way with his uncanny ability to make friends with anyone. Most of his time was spent training himself, or his pokémon, with the drive that he had to be as strong as he could be so he would be ready for any challenges that faced him in the future. He's ignored a good portion of the politics in Union for this, not caring enough and trusting that the Council would make the right decision in the end. Unfortunately, while Goku was out on a expedition, his grandfather had died of old age, lying peacefully in his bed when the young man returned.

Eventually, he did meet a woman, and after a time he finally married her. Her name is Chi-Chi, and the two of them ended up having two children together. Gohan, who they named after Goku's Grandpa Gohan, and Goten, their youngest. Goku is not home much however, to help raise his sons. He finally takes up a job as a Ranger when he's not actively exploring and reaching out into new lands, ensuring that no other Trainers are hurt and can stay safe while keeping track of everything in the area around Union itself. He's made a few other friends along the way, who either share the same profession as him or people he's ran into during his adventures. Sometimes Chi-Chi drags him into the city to do things with the family, going to some of the entertainment venues that Union has to offer or just spending time with them. But not before too long, Goku is gone without a trace, searching for new exciting lands, new challengers to test his mettle on, and new pokémon.

Canon Personality:

Son Goku, one of the last survivors of the Saiyan race, and protector of the universe embodies everything that one would find in a hero. He is kind, carefree, honest and trusting, yet determined and courageous. These traits and more encompass who he is as one of the greatest heroes that ever came to be.

Goku overall, is very playful, cheerful, and the depth of his kindness is almost unmatched. A loyal friend, he will never turn his back on anyone, and will do whatever it takes to protect the ones he cares for. In turn, he trusts his friends not to do anything that would harm anyone, and to always do what's right. This sometimes doesn't always go his way, he'll trust his opponents word as well. Promises and apologies mean a lot to Goku, and he will take them at face value. His naivety gets him into trouble, but this does not make him stupid by any means. He doesn't know a lot about the world around him due to not having a formal education, but Goku is very smart. Once he can get his hands on a concept, he will learn it quickly. He tends not to worry in situations that are pressing, angering some of his friends in the process. He is also very blunt and honest, speaking his mind and not thinking twice very often about what he says. Goku does tend to be a little forgetful, forgetting smaller things like promising Gohan he'd take him fishing one day. His outlook is often very positive, no matter what- even in regards to his enemies. But because of this, he's made friends in the most unlikely of places, adding Piccolo and Vegeta to his growing number of friends, and even befriending the God of Destruction Beerus.

However, this has led Goku to show kindness to those who would still seek to destroy him. His strong morality has kept him from destroying one of the most feared beings in the universe, the man who had destroyed his entire race, Frieza. Goku only seeks to win a fight, not to kill. The only time Goku will kill is if he must, and examples of this in canon are very few and far between. All life deserves a chance, and with this Saiyan, even second chances. He is very forgiving, especially when he can sense the good in someone else. He allows Dende to heal Majin Buu, saving his life against Vegeta's wishes, stating that he is simply returning the favor as Buu had saved Vegeta's life during the fight that had just occurred between the evil Kid Buu.

That being said, Goku also has a very strong sense of justice. He becomes very angry when witnessing his friends or family hurt, or if many innocent people are hurt or killed. He will do whatever it takes to protect his family, friends, the Earth, and the entire universe. His selflessness to do just that has led him to lose his life twice, sacrificing himself to save the planet and everyone he loves. And he will never, ever give up. His determination to succeed surpasses all others, never letting a shred of doubt to deter him. Even when things look too grim, and there couldn't be a single chance to win, he will still fight and still look for that opportunity. And his courage helps him to face all odds, no matter how insurmountable his foe may seem to be.

Goku is also known as a battle-addict, with an intense love of fighting. He only wishes to grow stronger to test his own limits, to try to make himself better and better. Always looking for a good, fair fight, he will never fight dirty and is constantly seeking opponents stronger than himself. His playful nature also comes out during his fights, never taking any fight seriously until he really has to, when he is facing someone strong enough to force him to transform just to be able to keep up. Competition drives him, and he can never get enough. He has a cocky side to him as well, though it isn't nearly to the degree that Vegeta displays, Goku is a bit proud and arrogant with his power. He knows how strong he is. He goes as far to taunt Beerus, asking Beerus if he needed to reduce his power back down to Super Saiyan 2 so he doesn't beat him too badly. This love of fighting has an impact on his home life however, and often leaves Chi-Chi angry with him. Goku does leave his family often, always going off to train himself or train Uub. And it's here that we see a little selfish side to Goku, always wanting to fight the bad guy, or leaving his family to train Uub just so he can get a good fight out of it.

The sum of it is that Goku is a hero. He'll never let anyone get hurt if he can help it, never back down and always fight for what's right. He is truly the hope of the universe, and can always be counted on to save the day.

AU Deviation:

One of the major differences here is that Goku was not responsible for his grandfather's death. Also, he'll hold no animosity for his brother Radtiz for threatening the life of the people of Earth or kidnapping his son, as it didn't happen (unless if someone apps Raditz and writes it into their AU history.) Other than that, Goku doesn't really change much himself, what changes is his relation to other canonmates. He's still a happy guy, always trying to be the best he can, and protect the people he loves.

Canon Abilities:

Physical Strength: Goku is far beyond the limits of a normal human, possessing super human strength characteristic of his Saiyan race. He has the capabilities of knocking things or people through mountains or other rather large and hardy structures. In turn, he can take a hit equal to that, himself being thrown into sides of cliffs or directly down into the ground, destroying the cliff side completely or creating a large crater where he landed in the ground, then getting up again, sometimes as if he'd barely been touched. The same can be said of most conventional weapons. Saiyans can be hit even by bullets and missiles and it won't do much other than make them wonder what just hit them and possibly bruise them, if it even hits at all. Which brings it to the speed of Saiyans; his speed is almost unmatched and in close quarters combat he is seen moving seemingly faster than the speed of light (as most of the other Z Fighters can also do, and some sources have him clocked at FTL speeds), appearing to pop in and out of thin air while fighting. It's stated that the movements of the main Z Fighters in canon can barely be followed to the trained eye, specifically to those who have a power level high enough to do it and not at all to the untrained eye. Uh, here's a scan to kinda show what I mean- Saiyans are fast man. They can also move so fast that they can duplicate their image, also knows as the After Image Technique, and Goku himself can create a dozen or more of an image of himself.

Ki Manipulation/Sense: Goku has the capability to use his energy/ki to create energy blasts that can be small enough to destroy tiny objects to big enough to be able to annihilate an entire planet. Here is a list of his techniques, barring anything that is video game only, since those are obviously not canon. He can also sense the energy of others, and if he's familiar with the energy emitted from a particular person, it becomes easier to identify who it is. It also allows him to track enemies in battle. Goku also has the ability to suppress his ki, so he can hide his presence to those who can also sense ki. He can transfer his ki to others, though it's not known what that does for non-ki users. He also uses his ki to fly, and can move at speeds not identified in canon, though it's suggested that they can easily fly around Earth in a few hours if not less. If you really want to dissect it here's a few places that do the math and it's kinda stupid and makes my head spin.

Kaio-Ken Technique: A technique taught to Goku by King Kai, it increases the user's ki, strength and speed significantly for a short period of time. It can go up to any number of multipliers, depending on how the user's body can handle it, though canonically we've only seen Goku use a Kaio-Ken x100.

Super Saiyan Transformations: Now, one of the trademarks of the canon, he has the ability to reach several different forms. He has the SSJ, SSJ2, and SSJ3 forms, which increase his power dramatically. He is capable of the Super Saiyan God form, but six pure-hearted Saiyans are required for the transformation.

Telekinesis/Telepathy: Both are rarely used, but he does possess the power to speak with others mentally, read minds and move objects with his mind, but he really doesn't need to because his energy attacks are far more powerful than to use telekinesis. (These are also listed in the wiki under his techniques.)

Fusion: Goku also possesses the knowledge to be able to fuse with another person, via the Fusion Dance. If the dance is performed incorrectly but the fusion is successful, the final result is a being that is far weaker, clumsy, and pathetic than the original fusees. However, when performed correctly it results in a incredibly powerful being (depending on the fusees) that dwarfs the two original participants. One factor to the fusion is that both participants must be in similar height, build, and power level, leaving very few choices for Goku to choose from to perform the dance with.

Instant Transmission: Goku can turn himself into a form of light and instantly teleport to almost anywhere in the universe as long as he can sense someone there. He must be able to focus to do it, holding his two fingers to his forehead to perform the technique.

Random Saiyan stuff: They also have enhanced hearing and smelling capabilities. The hearing is just slightly better than a dog and the smell lets them have the ability to track someone from quite a distance away, though the only thing I have to show for how far away is this video. All Saiyans also have access to an ability called Zenkai, which is the ability to receive a permanent power boost after fighting in an intense battle. Saiyans grow stronger after every battle they are in, and that is the ability that allows them to do so.

Enlightened Abilities:

Goku's ability will be Kindred Soul. His two types will be Fighting and Normal.

At first starting, he'll be rather good at martial arts since he was trained in it in Union, but as far as his canon abilities go, those will of course come slowly. He won't be able to generate ki blasts until he's at least level 20, and even then they won't be big ones and they aren't going to be powerful enough to rip through someone's body or anything like that. Same goes with being able to sense someone else's life energy. His physical strength will be progressing slowly too, starting with the strength of a normal body builder.

At level 35 he'll learn Kaio-Ken, a technique that boosts his fighting power substantially. At first he'll only be able to use it x1, but that will increase to x20 as he levels until he reaches level 55.

At level 55 he'll learn the Super Saiyan technique (SSJ1). Eventually, he'll master this technique, and there's really no need for him to have any transformation past that. Also, all abilities already learned will also increase in power, to the cap set by the mods of what Goku can do.

Note: He will not be receiving flight, Instant Transmission, Telepathy/Telekinesis, Fusion, or his Saiyan traits.

The enhanced item he'll have is just a pole, one he uses to fight with. Its special ability is that it can extend at a verbal command, becoming anywhere up to fifteen feet longer than its original six feet in length. Basically a watered down version of the Power Pole from canon, if that's alright. If not, he doesn't have to have it.

Starter Pokémon: He'll be starting with a Machop and a Klink!

SAMPLES I will be using the questions in lieu for a third-person sample!

First-Person:

Whew! Machop and I sure did push it to the limit today! If we keep this up, we'll be as strong as ever! So, I wanted to ask you guys a question. We've been looking for a few people to spar with, you know, get a little training in and see how we measure up against each other. If anyone's up for it, we sure would appreciate it. You don't want to get soft, you know! And what better than to really test yourself against someone else? So whaddya say, guys? Any takers?

Third-Person:

Q: No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?

Well, gosh. What I'd really want is anything that would help out- it doesn't matter what it is. You'll just have to take what you get and make the best of it. I know I'd be happy with any ability. Especially if it helps me keep everyone safe.

Q: When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?

I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to fight it? I just want to see how I measure up, but I'd only want to beat it in a fair fight! But, when it comes down to it, I'd ask it first if it wanted to fight me. I'm sure it wouldn't appreciate being jumped out of the blue.

Q: What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?

To make sure everyone in Union is safe. There's some dangerous people and pokémon out there, and where would we be if no one was around to defend it?

Q: To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?

I wouldn't stop until I found them. I won't leave them behind like that, no matter what it takes. They'd do the same for me!

Q: What does the story of the Savior mean to you?

I think that story is truly inspirational. It's one of those legends that really gives light to the people of Union. I only hope I can do even half of what they did for mankind. Heck, if I can even do a fraction for Union what the Savior did, then I'd be just fine.

Q: What do you seek for humanity’s future?

The ability to coincide with pokémon again, of course! There was peace once between us and pokémon. Wouldn't it be great if we could achieve that again? No wandering out in the wilderness, afraid of being attacked and killed; people and pokémon would be happy. That's what I want.
